Romeo and Juliet - A Summer Night of Theatre and Music

4th July 2017

St. James's Square Gardens SW1 Dame Judi Dench

Following a sell-out tour of Much Ado About Nothing in 2016, Shakespeare in the Squares will be returning to St. James’s Square Gardens this year with a new production of Romeo and Juliet, set in sun-drenched 1950s Italy. The play is currently in rehearsal with a wonderful cast of young professional actors and musicians. Once again, the design of the show is very much led by the garden and the simple set and lighting will enhance the natural features of the gardens.

Romeo and Juliet will be performed in St. James’s Square Gardens for one night only, on Tuesday 4th July 2017 at 19.00.

Tickets are on sale from Eventbrite from Friday 28 April.

Dame Judi Dench, CH, DBE, FRSA, Patron of Shakespeare in the Squares says:

When I first heard about Shakespeare in the Squares, my instant reaction was, ‘That is a marvellous idea; why hasn’t anyone done it before?’ To take William Shakespeare, whose timeless plays always have something important to say about the human condition, into idyllic gardens and other iconic spaces, offers a great opportunity to engage new and non-traditional audiences of all ages. It also provides talented young practitioners with a showcase to display their skills at an early stage in their careers, and the Company’s aim to do this is to be hugely welcomed. I am delighted to support this imaginative and ambitious initiative and hope that it will quickly spread far-and-wide.
