As you are hopefully aware already, the Annual Club Dinner will be held on Thursday 7th March, having been moved in the calendar from the autumn. Guest of Honour and the evening’s Speaker will be Lord Macdonald of Salford, who was Head of the Foreign Office and Diplomatic Service from 2015 for five years, the culmination of a career that included stints in Washington, France, Germany, Asia, and the Middle East, advising all five Prime Ministers. Members and guests will be welcomed with drinks in the Drawing Room followed by a three-course dinner in the Pall Mall Room. We kindly advise you to book in advance as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Lord Macdonald, now Master of Christ’s College, which is currently top-ranked at the University of Cambridge, will share some thoughts on today’s uncertain world, drawing on his experience in the diplomatic service of nearly 40 years. Lord Macdonald will be free to answer questions on the night from members, no longer bound by the impartiality restrictions under which he worked at the Civil Service so perhaps offering a longer view than those who are part of the domestic political scene, and embrace the electoral cycle.
