WELCOME TO THE ARMY & NAVY CLUB

Situated in relaxed refinement in the heart of St James's, the Army and Navy Club, often known by its nickname, "The Rag", prides itself on offering a unique combination of the ambience traditionally found in an officers' mess, with the comfort and facilities of an exclusive hotel.

Catering primarily for serving and former officers of the British and Commonwealth Armed Services, as well as their immediate relatives, the Club has approximately 5,000 Members comprising both ladies and gentlemen. The Club is also able to offer a limited number of membership places to other ladies and gentlemen who have not served in the Armed Forces.

Enjoy the extensive amenities the Club has to offer, from relaxing with a drink in one of the bars, or fine dining in one of our restaurants, to holding private business meetings or attending a presentation in our conference and business facilities. The Club’s comfortable, distinguished and beautiful environment also welcomes private events such as weddings and parties, and with over 80 attentive staff, an excellent standard of service is provided.

What's more, the Club is within easy reach of many London attractions - shopping on Bond Street, Regent Street or Jermyn Street, seats at a West End show, a gentle stroll round St James's Park or visiting London's most famous places, such as Buckingham Palace, the Mall, Horseguards, Whitehall and the Houses of Parliament. The Club also has established connections with many local businesses, who help to add value to Club membership by offering discounts and exclusive arrangements specifically to Club Members.

The Army and Navy Club is a member of the Younger Members' Inter-Club Group  (for further information click here).

Visit of the Victoria & Albert: Art & Love Exhibition at the Queen’s Gallery

The Queen’s Gallery near Buckingham Palace is a permanent space dedicated to changing exhibitions of items from the Royal Collection. This year, the Victoria & Albert: Art & Love Exhibition is the first ever to concentrate on Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s shared enthusiasm of art and it focuses on the Royal couple’s mutual delight in collecting and displaying works of art, from the time of their engagement in 1839 to the Prince’s untimely death in 1861.  The exhibition also challenges the popular image of Victoria – the melancholy widow of 40 years, and reveals her as a passionate and open-minded young woman.

The visit on 30 September 2010 will be followed by a three-course Dinner at the Club. The inclusive price for this visit, which will bring together over 400 items from the Royal Collection, and dinner will be £75.60 per head. 10% discounted accommodation and garage available on 30 September 2010, if applied at the same time as your visit ticket.

Windsor Castle Visit

Following successful guided tours of Windsor Castle, the largest and oldest occupied castle in the world, a few years ago, we have decided to repeat the experience to give another opportunity to those of you who were not able to make the first visits.

Windsor Castle is of course one of Her Majesty The Queen’s official residences which sums up 900 years of British History.  William the Conqueror’s wooden castle was rebuilt by Edward III as a stone fortress.  Charles II set out to rival the Versailles of his cousin Louis XIV, transforming Windsor into what has been called “the most romantic castle” while George IV filled the rooms with outstanding works of art and gave the Castle its famous skyline.

You will enjoy exclusive access to the magnificent State Apartments and you will be given the opportunity to see some great masterpieces by Breughel, Holbein, Rubens and van Dyck as well as various other objets d’art.

The exhibition in the Drawing Gallery this year shows material by Royal Photographer Marcus Adams who encapsulated four generations of the Royal Family between 1926 and 1956.  The 57 images in the exhibition span over 30 years and include vintage prints from almost all the royal sittings, many from the collection of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.  The centrepiece of the exhibition is a charming group of photographs of the young Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret taken in the late 1920’s and 1930’s.

The private two-hour by a Royal Household guide will take place on 7 October 2010.  The return journey by coach (after a cup of tea or coffee) will start mid-afternoon (the time will be confirmed on receipt of bookings) and on return, the day will be concluded by a three-course dinner at the Club. The inclusive price is £108.75 per head. 15% discounted accommodation and garage available on 7 October 2010, if applied at the same time as your visit ticket.
